Students teases the future of home automation with Microsoft Research’s HomeOS
Less than a year ago, Microsoft Research began tinkering with the idea to create an “operating system” for the home dubbed “ HomeOS “. In the months since, it turns out students from a number of US universities have spent their semesters prototyping some pretty cool applications for such a platform. In the video above, students of the University of Washington demonstrate five such applications including: Improving security with camera on a door a doorthat senses the presence of visitors and notifies users with an image of the person on the PC or phone.

An image posted by Engadget today portrayed to be concepts of an upcoming Nokia Windows Phone 7 device should be taken with a grain of salt. From afar, it’s easy to be captivated by the elegant industrial design, but a closer look reveals a glaring mistake that results in one of two possibilities, the more likely of which is that it’s a fake.

Windows Mobile 7 all but certain to be revealed at Mobile World Congress next month
During Microsoft’s PDC09 event in November of last year, Ray Ozzie revealed (to the disappointment of many) that Windows Mobile 7 would only be discussed at MIX in March . However as of today it’s pretty much certain we’ll get to see this make-or-break mobile OS first, a month-ahead of MIX10, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona during February 15-18

By now, I hope most of you have seen James Cameron’s Avatar movie . And if you’ve seen it in 3D – the way it has to be seen – then you might have a pretty good idea of what a stereoscopic 3D user-interface looks like and would agree with me when I say it will be the next evolution of graphical user interfaces. If for some reason you haven’t seen Avatar and will not in the near future, then no two-dimensional image (like the one above) will do the technology justice
