Homebrew screenshot tool for Windows Phone 7.5 (works for all phones)
As first reported by WPCentral , An interesting homebrew app came out of the Chinese Windows Phone community recently that enables pro users to finally take screenshots in most areas of the OS. Although Microsoft has their reasons to not provide a native method to take screenshots as it is possible with iPhones which has led to a monopoly of mobile auto correct-based memes , the homebrew tool now levels the playing field for Windows Phone 7.5 users too. Contrary to the initial report that this requires an interop-unlocked phone, that is not the case

Microsoft Touch Mouse gets its own multi-touch SDK
Hot on the heels of the Kinect SDK , Microsoft Research is releasing another software development kit (SDK) for a Microsoft natural user interface product. This time, developers will get to tinker with the multi-touch functionality of the (yet-to-be-released) Microsoft Touch Mouse . The 32bit / 64bit SDK includes both C# and C++ code samples consuming the Microsoft TouchMouseSensor API which outputs a 13×15 grayscale pixel sensor image from the integrated sensor of the mouse itself

Windows vNext with native ARM support paves way for a unified kernel
At the Microsoft Special Press Conference ahead of CES 2011 where Steven Sinofsky first revealed information about the next version of Windows with native ARM support , one journalist asked a great question – since Windows Phone is ARM-centric, whether the next version of Windows will also power the next major release of Windows Phone? Sinofsky avoided to answer the question entirely. If you think about Steve Ballmer’s quote from Microsoft’s keynote , “Windows will be everywhere”, desktops, laptops, slates/tablets, phones and even Surfaces could all be considered form factors of a Windows PC, running the same operating system across x86 and ARM

.NET Micro Framework project turns Christmas lights into IM contact indicators
Some people hang colorful Christmas lights outside their house and others hang flashing ones on the Christmas tree, but you probably haven’t seen Christmas lights as cool as these on an office wall. Then again, very few Christmas lights are powered by the .NET Micro Framework. According to Andrej Kyselica’s forum post , who happens to be a Microsoft employee, he wrote a driver for the FEZ .NET Micro Framework embedded controller to individually-control a set of hackable GE-35 LED Christmas lights .
