Microsoft begins selling advertising for Skype

Since it closed acquisitions of Skype last month, Microsoft has taken the first steps to integrate its new baby into the extended family by switching over management of Skype’s client display advertising from third parties to its own. Can you feel the synergy in the air? It should be noted Skype introduced advertising in its Windows and iPhone clients months before Microsoft’s acquisition however Skype had to partner with a variety of companies in various geographical regions to sell this very premium screen real-estate.

Musicians at Microsoft release 5th album for charity

Continuing the charitable theme of Microsoft employees for the annual October Employee Giving Program , here is another for-charity product of a few gifted volunteers – an album recorded by Microsoft musicians. The last thing I expected to see is “Microsoft” as a record label.

Bing Australia drops out of beta, still crippled

You know it’s Australian because it’s got kangaroos. Bing Australia made a quiet announcement today that they’re officially out of beta. In the strictest sense, it means they’ve removed the “beta” tag from the logo and enabled a small set of value-add services to the previously barebones local search engine.

Death to banding: Windows Phone devs, please upgrade your apps to 32 BitsPerPixel

As a lover of pixels, I want to spread the word on the little known feature that Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” introduced to fix color bandings in third party applications. Of course, there’s a catch – it’s opt-in for developers. Doh

Is there any way to manually repair windows 7?

Question by danilhastings: Is there any way to manually repair windows 7?
windows 7 decided to go nuts on me and kept failing to boot and was giving me some i/o error so i tried to repair using the windows 7 dvd and it said that it was repairing some disc errors and could take over an hour to complete so i left it for about 4 hours and it wasnt complete so i just powered down and installed ubuntu onto the laptop and its running fine so hardware issues are ruled out it was a windows corruption of some sort.

now since the install disc wouldnt work is there any way i can take what i need from that disc and place it manually into the right location on the hard drive. im able to access all the windows files through ubuntu so if i know wha files and where to put them i can give it a go.

i know ive been quite vague with the description as i didnt pay much attention to anythin as i thought the disc would do its job and repair windows like it should. i also know how many files are in wondows and how difficult it is to know what files are needed but its hardly that big a problem its now like i was messing around with windows files or anythin.

the laptop came with a factory image but i have been unable to find its location on the hdd and i do not know what button to press to use it upon boot to make the factory image load from what i remembered it had to be done through windows. i cannot even boot windows in safe mode btw i looks like its loading then the black message pops up. there is no simple fix to this problem from what i can tell

chris.pirillo.com – Here’s why I’m “upgrading” from Windows Vista to Windows XP in a few days. I just flipped on the webcam and started talking – it’s all based on a post I made to my personal blog the other day. Are you on Vista? Are you still on XP? What are your plans?
