Microsoft’s Craig Mundie talks Kinect and demos Avatar Kinect in Melbourne
At a public lecture hosted by Melbourne University’s Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society this evening (which just received Microsoft funding ), Microsoft’s Chief Research and Strategy Officer, Craig Mundie gave one of the first public demonstrations of Avatar Kinect after its initial debut at CES 2011. During his talk on the topic of natural user interfaces called “More Like Us: Computing Transformed”, Craig summarized natural user interfaces as computing without the learning curve

Microsoft’s “Future of productivity” showcases 19 years of evolution in information technology
Don’t let the name of this video mislead you, this is not a concept video like the infamous “ Productivity Vision 2019 ” by Office Labs. In fact, this video doesn’t actually show anything that’s not possible today. Nevertheless, it’s still a very inspiring demonstration of information technology in practice

[See post to watch Flash video] Like a good artistic visualization, you can never get bored of looking at how the Kinect works behind-the-scenes. Of course pretty colors and dancing skeletons is useful, but the science behind just how the Kinect on XBOX 360 can recognize human poses in real-time from a depth-image from a single angle is fascinating too

Former Miss Australia Erin McNaught goes dating for Windows 7 TV ads
A series of comedic TV advertisements featuring the winner of Miss Australia 2006, Erin McNaught , appears to be part of a new campaign to boost the promotion of Windows 7 and Windows Live 2011 in Australia. At least three ads have been produced which star the beauty pageant winner with three less-than-desirable dates in various scenarios where Windows 7 and Windows Live has proven useful. Features shown include internet media streaming, Photo Fuse and Live Mesh .
